Birth Parent Letter

To a Brave Woman … Thank you for considering placing your child with us.  Our family, while abundant with love and laughter, still feels incomplete.  Your love and strength are miracles to families like our own.  We can't begin to imagine what you are going through, but we hope that by getting to know us, you will feel confident in our ability and desire to care for, love, protect, and raise this child through his/her own life story.

We believe: Children should be raised through love and understanding, guidance, teaching plenty of patience, and a good dose of humor.  We believe in teaching children the wonders of learning, the value of family and the importance of kindness and respect.  Basically we want our children to have fun, positive experiences.  As babies, they will have toys and games that challenge them physically and mentally in a warm safe environment.  We will expose them to all types of music, books and sports.  In the summer we will teach them to swim, and in the winter to build snowmen.  We all do chores together, wash the dogs, sing, and eat ice-cream and cake.  As they grow, we all go to church together.  We will support them when they struggle, praise them when they do well, and provide guidance when they make mistakes because nobody is perfect.  We believe that every child is unique and special, and we want to provide the individual love, nurturing and support they need to grow, thrive and be who they are.  We will also expose our children to all the rich cultural traditions of their heritage.

A bit about us: My name is Christa and my husband, who is sitting beside me, is Jim.  Over the eleven years we ave been married, we have had lots of good times and built ourselves a home full of love.  We are best friends, as well as husband and wife.  We both knew we wanted to have children, but had no idea how challenging this was going to be.  We ave overcome personal obstacles together, like suffering years of infertility, which has made us stronger as individuals and as a couple.  We have always embraced life as struggles which have been many, and looked at them as part of who we are today.  Most recently, we experienced the passing of our daughter Gabriella who was just 5 days old.  She is truly our angel; we love and miss her everyday and she will always be a part of our family.

Now we happily look forward to adoption so we can share our love with a new life.  We ave built a deep respect and lasting love for each other.  We will raise our children with that respect and love and with an eye toward developing their individuality to help them achieve their fullest potential.  We will fill their lives with warmth, security, and plenty of fun, too.

When we met, Jim had sole custody of his son Parker who was already 8 years old.  Together we have raised, nurtured, and loved Parker to help him become who he is today.  Parker is a US Marine who leaves for Afghanistan this March.  We are so proud of him.  As you read more about us, please consider allowing us to welcome the child you are carrying into our family, and our strong circle of love.

Our family: We have absolutely amazing families.  Both of our parents are still married and we have lots of aunts/uncles plus a bunch of young cousins who have small children.  They are super excited to welcome the newest member to our family.  We must admit that since Christa as parents live so close, they are going to be super Grandma and Grandpa, meaning they are looking forward to doting on and spoiling their grandchildren.  Our work schedules give us the most fortunate gift where one or both of us will always be home raising our children.  We long to rock the baby that was meant to join our family in our arms, wipe a runny nose, can't wait to read to our children, go sledding, bake cookies, play silly, fun games and experience life as joys – basically we want to be a Mom and Dad.

Home, Community & Values: Living each day to the fullest while providing for our children as future is our number one goal.  Our greatest hope is that our children grow up to be happy, secure, and caring individuals.  We own a 3 bedroom home in a south suburb of Chicago which has earned the title of “Best Place in America to Raise Kids.

About Christa

I come from a very close-knit family that includes my Mom, Dad and two younger sisters, Michelle and Terasa.  On February 26th, Michelle gave birth to her first child, my first nephew.  I am not only fortunate to have Michelle as my best friend, but we also live a quick 10 minutes apart.  If I am blessed enough to adopt, we will provide the environment so that our children will have the close, loving relationship as we do.  My ethnic background is mainly Italian so Sunday dinners with the entire family at 3 in the afternoon still occur every week, birthdays and holidays are all a must, being talkative is the norm, and most importantly there is a strong commitment with unconditional love.  I grew up in Oak Lawn and attended private elementary and high schools; I completed college and am a licensed Physical Therapy Assistant, but now work full-time as a 5th grade teacher in a Western suburb of Chicago.  I love my job.  Being able to make a difference in a child as life means a lot to me, especially sharing my enthusiasm for reading.  My parents raised us in a loving, nurturing and fun environment.  Family and friends say that I inherited a very nurturing side from my parents.  We attended church regularly and had family dinner every night.  Some of my favorite memories are: swimming in the backyard pool, going camping in a tent, visiting Disney World, collecting worms and making mud pies, spending a week in Wisconsin Dells every summer, going miniature golfing, and being read a book at night time.  We want to do all these things with your baby and more.  I also enjoy playing board games with friends and family, walking our dogs, and day dreaming about all the things I hopefully will able to do once we adopt.

About Jim

My family includes my Mom, Dad and younger brother, Michael, who all live in Missouri.  My ethnic background is German/Polish and Lithuanian.  I grew up in Orland Park and attended public schools.  I enjoyed playing baseball, was in Cub Scouts with my Mom as a den mother, as well as racing my BMX bike at the YMCA where they had the local dirt track.  I loved swimming in our pool and half the neighborhood had one, so my friends and I would pool hop from one to another.  I would have to say that I was lucky to have my Mom stay at home with us, and when my Dad got home from work we all sat down for dinner.  As a family, we went on vacations to Disney, the Smokey Mountains and Colonial Williamsburg to name a few.  I worked full-time at UPS for 20 years until an unfortunate work related injury occurred, which required me to have low back surgery.  I am all better now, and enjoy working part-time at Lowe as.  Like most guys I love our Chicago sports teams – the Blackhawks, Bears and White Sox.  But unlike most guys, I really enjoy cooking.  In fact, I cook way better than Christa and the whole family agrees.  Whenever there is a family birthday party or special occasion, I am always the one doing the baking.  I anxiously await the day that I can have a pair of little hands helping me in the kitchen.  We are proud owners of two small dogs – a female named Lacy and a male named Louie.
